The Escola Superior d'Arxivística i Gestió de Documents
seeks to promote research along the following lines:
- Profitability studies in document management system application for achieving efficiency and effectiveness policies within administrations and companies.
This line of research will go beyond the obvious theoretical reflections and, thus, be founded on a strong quantitative base that objectifies the benefits and the need for correct organization of the vital document cycle under the following guidelines:
- Evaluation of the economic and organizational benefits of implementing a document management system.
- Electronic management of documents, with the goal of making the paperless office a reality. This objective implies two primary areas of research: the preservation of electronic documents beyond natural technological obsolescence as well as the guaranteeing of legal effectiveness over time for electronic documents.
- Consolidation of archiving methodology in terms of a structured system of information organization based on systematic classification, normalized description methods, and, above all, the development of information evaluation principles, i.e. establishing values and terms of preservation within the framework of a society characterized by a flood of information.
- The diffusion of knowledge
. In this sense, the institution must open lines of research dedicated to the creation of products that make a reality out of the desire to convert information into knowledge. This involves multimedia products, electronic publications, pedagogical dossiers and marketing products based on valuable archival materials. In short, we propose that this line of research, based on cultural action, should overcome the present state in which information is limited, by and large, to academic and erudite circles.
- Measures promoting the access to archives as an irrefutable democratic right.
This area involves two completely different research thrusts:
- Establishing those documents that continue to be for public access in accordance with free access laws, but also in accordance with the principles of respect for personal privacy among citizens.
- Strengthening telematic access to document background. This line of research involves an effort aimed at facilitating the availability of systematic and structured contents to the network (groups of historical documents, image documents, newspaper collections, etc.), adopting a preservation methodology for original documents and a series of possibilities for providing original sources of information and knowledge to citizens.
